This report was produced on the occasion of Dance Lab#3 “New Performing Arts Hubs – New Structures for Dance and Space from Dance Centers Around the World” ( https:\/\/<\/a> ), which was held in September 2019 before the establishment of the dance house Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY). taci.dance\/dance-lab3\/)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What kind of dance space is considered the most effective in Japan today? What functions are required of them? We commissioned Takao Norikoshi, one of Japan’s leading dance critics, to conduct a survey of dance spaces around the world with the aim of discussing how new dance spaces should be organized. Based on his experience of visiting various dance spaces around the world and interacting with local producers and directors, Mr. Norikoshi has reported realistic information on the characteristics and philosophy of dance spaces.
This publication was commissioned as a reference for new dance centers, but we have distributed it as a handout to let many people know about the various attempts to connect dance and society in dance spaces around the world, and to help improve and develop the dance world in Japan.<\/p>\n

We hope you will also compare the concepts of “opening dance” and “connecting dance and society” of Dance Base Yokohama, a dance house that opened in Bashamichi, Yokohama in June 2020, as you read through this publication.<\/p>\n
