Documenting and disseminating dance is a very important task, but there is a lack of professional writers in Japan.
With the help of a strong partner, Takao Norikoshi, we have decided to organize a course for people who want to become dance critics. We are very pleased that so many people applied for the open call with their great love for dance.
We would like to make a connection not only with those who were selected this time, but also with the rest of you. Therefore, we have sent invitations to the “Rain” performance to everyone who applied. We hope that we will be able to further develop our dance program by interacting with all of you who have applied.
Thank you for your application.
I am truly impressed by the large number of applicants with their talent and passion for dance and criticism, responding to our desire to nurture professional dance critics and to enrich dance criticism in Japan.
The five successful applicants were a unique group of people of different ages, occupations, and personalities.
Let’s work hard for about six months to make sure that they are worthy of being called professionals and that they are strong enough to survive in the untamed wilderness.
Also, due to Olé’s capacity, we had to choose five finalists, but we were able to meet many other talents who would make very attractive writers.
Please do not be discouraged or give up just because of this one time, and try again next time.
Don’t be intimidated if you don’t have enough viewing experience, if you don’t speak English, or if you are not a good communicator. You just need to hone your own unique weapons and make them stand out. I am waiting with excitement for the emergence of a dance critic who will surpass my expectations.
Next time, I may use different criteria than this time.
Above all, I would like to cherish the encounters I have had this time with those of you who have the will to write. It would be too much of a waste to say that it is irrelevant once the selection process is over.
ProLab Dance Critics [Training → Dispatch] Program] will continue to build on these connections as it continues to grow.
DaBY seems to be thinking about it a lot, so I’ll think about it too. As for the critique of this year’s entries, we will not be able to provide a critique until after the end of the class, as we will be using the entries in the main lecture.
Thank you very much for your application! And a big thank you to Dance Base Yokohama for co-sponsoring the event, and to the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee for supporting us. Thanks to you, we are off to a great start. But we’ve only just begun, man!
