We are pleased to announce a dance workshop by Alice Godfrey, who is active as a dancer all over the world and will create a new work with Mariko Kakizaki, a DaBY resident artist this year.

◆Message from the Instructor
We are changing every day. How can we ask ourselves what kind of person we are today? What are our concerns today? What is my motivation to move today? How does my skin feel today? What is the quality of our attention today? Listen. Pass between what is and what is not. Thinking and acting. Let us quiet our own nervous system to savor the seeds of beginnings and notice our most sensitive intuition. The seeds of beginnings are the ones that direct our even greater movement. Let us sharpen our own capacity for change, for our flower to bloom in the form and color of our choosing, and let us be conscious of choosing the seeds that will sprout in one moment and the next. And finally, let us reclaim our most important role as dancers, dreaming dreams that unite fantasy and imagination and release the joy of movement.”

◆Lecturer Profile
Born in Windhoek, Namibia in 1994. She grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, where she received her dance training, and after high school she joined the post-secondary program at the National Ballet School of Canada. Studied under the direction of Artistic Director Mavis Staines, she took her first professional position with Nederland Dance Theatre’s second company, NDT2, in 2014 and moved to the first company, NDT1, in 2017.From 2019 onwards, she will work with choreographer Sharon Eyal’s dance company L-E-V. She also works as a freelance artist on various projects.
This year, they are also working with dancer/choreographer Mariko Kakizaki on a new piece, which will be premiered at the “Performing Arts Selection 2023” on September 16 and 17 at the Aichi Arts Center.
