In February 2021, DaBY will hold a tryout event for Japanese artists who have been residing and working at DaBY this year to showcase their creative process. Mina Nishimura and Kota Yamazaki, who are currently based in the U.S.

This is the third tryout of the project, in which creators of different genres, led by DaBY associate choreographer Ryu Suzuki, will create works. We will further explore how the casual choices we make in our daily lives, how our minor decisions can lead to unintended consequences.

(2) “Ghosts, Other, or You” (Work in Progress)

Music by Masahiro Sugaya

Kota Yamazaki and Mina Nishimura will perform a work-in-progress of their new work Ghosts, Other, or You, co-created at Florida State University and Maggie Alessi National Choreography Center (MANCC) in December 2020. This work investigates the fractal, weather-like body and aging time that can embrace two different histories, perceptions, and fragmented internal landscapes within the complex and static world of nature.

Mina Nishimura
Winner of the Best Performance Award, U.S. Dance Magazine in 2006 and the FCA Award (U.S. Foundation for Contemporary Arts Award) in 2007. MFA Fellow, Bennington College.

Kota Yamazaki
He received the Bessie Award in 2007, a Guggenheim Fellow in 2006, and many other awards. Organizer of the Body Arts Laboratory. Full-time lecturer at Bennington College.
