Artist Profile
While presenting his own works in Japan and abroad, he has developed an aesthetic of movement that transcends the boundaries of stage, live performance, and media. As a dancer, he has performed in works by Akira Kasai and many other choreographers, and has toured abroad. In recent years, he has expanded his activities to include collaborations with artists of other genres, choreography for films, and appearances at the Paris Collection. She dances with an emphasis on the importance of what goes around.
Plans to present a new work with Saori Hara at next year’s “Aichi Arts Center x Dance Base Yokohama Performing Arts Selection”.
Born in Mie Prefecture in 1987. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design (now Kyoto University of Art), Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and began classical and modern ballet at the age of 3. Based in Kyoto, she works as a director, choreographer, and dancer. Since 2016, she has been the leader of akakilike, a group consisting only of Midori Kurata and technical staff. They aim to involve actors and staff on an equal footing in their productions. He received the 2023 Kyoto City Art Newcomer Award. He is a Saison Fellow I of the Saison Foundation, and has been the Artistic Director of the Matsumoto City Arts Center (Dance Division) since April 2024.
Born in 1995. Actor. First-year student at Tama Art University’s Department of Theatre and Dance Design, dropped out in his junior year. Then moved to France. Entered Jacques Lecoq International School of Theatre. Although he entered the school, he knew almost no French or English, and survived for two years through daily classes, living in extreme poverty in Paris, intuition, and hard work. It was quite painful. I didn’t understand anything. It was fun. Three and a half years after returning to Japan, I had the opportunity to teach, and I am now digging up my memories and examining what mime (assimilation) was the basis of Lecoq’s education, and what the gap is between it and the current Japanese theater.
A dancer and choreographer, she started classical ballet at the age of 6. After graduating from high school, she went to Germany to study classical ballet and contemporary dance at a ballet school, and after receiving her diploma, she joined Budapest Dance Theater. After turning freelance, she returned to Japan in 2018 and participated in projects with Motoko Hirayama, Shiki Geography, Kota Yamazaki, Eima Yuasa, and others. In addition to her work as a dancer, she also choreographs and teaches dance scenes for TV dramas and movies, and choreographs for video works.
