In this workshop, participants will learn how to create a va-performance piece using “Design of Situation,” a method developed by DaBY’s resident choreographer, Saori Hala. After a brief 20-minute lecture at the beginning of each 90-minute session, the 70-minute studio work session will begin with an observation of the relationship between the body and space (in this case, DaBY) through the concept of “affordance” taken from ecopsychology. From there, we will translate this into specific movement ideas according to each participant’s skill level.

This workshop is mainly for dance artists who are looking for new hints and perspectives for choreography, direction, and improvisation. However, all levels of physical skill are welcome, so those who have no experience in performance but would like to learn and think about performance expression through their own bodies are also welcome to participate.
