DaBY is located on the third floor of a retro space in a restored warehouse attached to the former Yokohama Raw Silk Inspection Station.
The acting area for dance classes, creative activities (residencies), showings, workshops, tryouts, etc., is at the center, with archival functions such as a library located in the surrounding corridor area, as well as dressing rooms, shower facilities, offices, and storage in the back yard. In order to create a true creative space for creators, we aim to create a space where they can encounter a variety of people and knowledge. These spaces are designed by ON Design Partners, a local firm based in Bashamichi, Yokohama, with a proven track record in urban development and creator network building.
It will be operated and managed by the SEGA SAMMY Foundation for Arts and Culture, established on March 1, 2019, with the aim of contributing to the development of cultural and artistic activities in Japan, especially contemporary dance.
