Ai Shimatsu Lecture -Working Professionally in America, Dancing as a Japanese
Ai Shimatsu came to New York by herself at the age of 19 and has been working as a professional dancer in the United States for more than 10 years.
He has toured the world with top artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Katy Perry, and Pharrell, and has appeared in films and numerous fashion brand campaigns.
Why did she choose the U.S. at the age of 19, what steps did she take to be able to work in the U.S., and most importantly, what did she learn from her experience of working as a professional dancer overseas, where she ran into obstacles and struggled, and what is the “mentality” to succeed in this highly competitive industry? She will talk about the secrets to success overseas, based on her 10 years of experience.

◆Lecturer Profile
She began studying ballet at the age of 3, trained at the Tokyo Ballet School, and moved to the U.S. by herself at the age of 19. In 2011, she was selected as one of Beyonce’s auditioners in New York City, and became the first Asian dancer to perform exclusively for Beyonce on her promotional tour. This year, she also performed in the much talked about “Renaissance Tour. She toured the U.S. and Europe as Beyonce’s dancer. She has also participated in the world tours of other top artists such as Madonna, Katy Perry, and Pharrell Williams.
She has also performed with Prince, Brandy, Cardi B, Gwen Stefani, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, and many others. She also appeared in the TV drama series ‘Glee’. She has appeared not only as a dancer but also as a model for ‘COACH,’ ‘rag & bone,’ ‘KENZO,’ She has been featured in campaigns for ‘COACH’, ‘rag & bone’, ‘KENZO’, ‘GAP’, ‘Abercrombie and Fitch’, and ‘Tommy Hilfiger ‘s campaign, which was shown in stores around the world and on the Internet. She also appeared as a dancer and actress in the movie ‘Spirited’ which was released last year.
