2024/2025 Resident Artist Application Guideline

Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) will be accepting new applications for resident artist for 2024/2025.

We will support those who share DaBY’s vision of  “establishing a professional environment for developing dance” and “making dance more accessible to society” and those willing to work with DaBY’s artists and staff.

This year’s residency will require a showing at the end, and we plan to select works for “Performing Arts Selection” and other events in 2025 onward.

We are looking for artists from a wide variety of fields who are interested in physical expression, not limited to dance. We encourage everyone to apply.

◆Application Requirements

1. In principle, individuals or groups between the ages of 18-39.

2. To hold a showing at DaBY.

3. To hold a workshop for DaBY resident dancers.

*The showing will be mandatory in principle during the residency period.

◆Support Details

  • Studio use for approximately 20 days between April 2024-March 2025.
  • Production cost subsidy of approximately 500,000-1,000,000 yen
  • Support for public relations, production, and partial technical support for showings.
    *Artists selected to perform in the “Performing Arts Selection” will be provided with studio use and production assistance for the recreation of the relevant work.
  • *Unfortunately, DaBY cannot provide travel and accommodation fees.

◆Conditions During Residency

1. Must be an initiative with a social perspective.

2. Transparency of activities during the residency.

In principle, DaBY does not create enclosed spaces in order to ensure a healthy creation environment. We also aim to practice “fair creation” with the intention of establishing a place where participating creators and staff can communicate on an equal footing. The archive area allows visitors to view the acting area on a daily basis, which is based on the principle of opening the process of creation to the public as a place that connects the theater to everyday life.
*It is possible to use the room in a closed state by temporarily closing the doors and windows during tryouts or when you need to concentrate. *If you would like to use the space in a closed environment depending on the nature of your work, please specify this at the time of application or consult with us on a case-by-case basis.

3. Collaboration with events for DaBY resident dancers and audiences.

4.Participation in programs held at DaBY

Preferred dates: Select up to three of the above proposed dates.
*If you would like to make detailed schedule adjustments, please indicate this in the remarks column of the application form.

◆Selection Process

First round: Applications will be reviewed based on the materials submitted on the application form. You will be notified by email regardless of the outcome.
Second round: Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited for an interview. Online interviews via Zoom are also available.

*Please note that it will take approximately two weeks to complete the first round of the audition process.
