2023 Fiscal Year DaBY Residence Artists Open call for applications
Dance Base Yokohama ( DaBY ) is now accepting applications for the year 2023 from new artists in residence, etc. We will actively support those who share DaBY ‘s concepts of “developing a professional dance environment” and “opening dance to society ” and who are willing to work together with DaBY artists and staff. We are looking for artists from a wide variety of fields who are interested in physical expression, not limited to dance. We encourage you to apply.

The number of applicants is limited. Subject of application
Artists, creators, researchers, etc. under 35 years old involved in the performing arts (in principle)
Dance, performance, music, art, architecture, or any other form of expression involving the body is acceptable.
Individual/group/team applications are accepted.

*Acting area of approx. 200 m2, basic sound and lighting facilities available (technical staff on request), archive area with dance-related books, changing rooms, showers, hot water supply (no fireplace)
*Hours of use are negotiable.
Overnight stay is not available at this facility.

(1) Activities must have a social perspective.
Based on an understanding of the DaBY concept* , activities that consider responses to the current performing arts and social environment and their relationship to society

(2) Openness of activities during the period of stay.
In order to realize a healthy creation environment, DaBY does not, in principle, create closed spaces. In addition, DaBY aims to practice “fair creation ” * with the intention of creating a place where participating creators and staff can communicate equally. The archive area is open to visitors on a daily basis, and the acting area is open to the public.
*”Fair Creation” is a term coined with the intention of conducting creative activities in an environment of mutual respect and fairness so that no one is victimized by harassment or other incidents caused by imbalances or distortions in relationships during creation and rehearsals.
DaBY has an “Archive Area” that can be used by registering as a free member, and the general public can browse performing arts-related books in this area during the library’s opening hours.
*It is also possible to use the room in a closed state by temporarily closing the doors and windows, such as during tryouts or when you want to concentrate.
*If you would like to use a closed space depending on the nature of your activities, please specify this when you apply.
(iii) Event cooperation for DaBY registered dancers and spectators
To the extent possible, we encourage you to share your experiences with DaBY’s registered dancers. Please cooperate with us when we request you to hold workshops or seminars. (Gratuities will be paid)
(4) Dissemination of information on activities
You will be asked to cooperate in publicity activities, such as sending out information on social networking sites, in order to open up dance to the society about our activities at DaBY. We will inform you of the specific method after the decision is made.

In addition, please include the designated credit and logo in publicity materials and profiles when presenting works and activities created by DaBY.

Expenses not covered by the program are, in principle, to be borne by the artists.
If you wish to bring someone other than the representative of the applicant and the company members who have submitted the application, please consult with us in advance.
Please note that we will record (photos and videos) the activities and artworks during the residency.
Publicity|We ask for your cooperation to the extent possible with publicity (including SNS ) and media interviews conducted by DaBY during the residency period.
Please submit a brief report after the program (any format is acceptable).

Activities for which feasibility is ensured
Please commit to creating under a relationship of mutual respect with allparticipating creators, staff members, and othermembers involved inDaBY.Sexual harassment, power harassment, or any other behavior that lacks respect is prohibited.
The responsible person will sign a letter of acceptance that they will abide by the terms and conditions of their stay and production atDance Base Yokohama, and that they will accept social sanctions such as penalty charges and publicity if they violate the terms and conditions of the agreement.
If, during the course of your activities as a resident artist, you gain a good understanding of DaBY’s activity guidelines and agree to work with us in the future, you may be appointed as an associate choreographer of DaBY and commissioned to perform works for the theater or provide ongoing support for our activities. DaBY may commission a choreographer for a theatrical production or provide continuous support for DaBY’s activities.
