DaBY ProLab for Dancers As part of the 2021 [first semester] Dancer Training Program, DaBY Contextual Studies will be held. Eri Karatsu, Executive Producer of Aichi Arts Center and Artistic Director of DaBY, will give a lecture on “Introduction to Western Dance History” and “How Dance Performances are Made. Nine DaBY resident dancers, members of the Dancer Development Program, will also participate in this program.

Introduction to the History of Western Dance: From Ballet to Contemporary Dance
With the history of dance in Western Europe as its main axis, this exhibition traces 400 years of history from the establishment of ballet, the origin of dance for the purpose of appreciation, to contemporary dance of the same period, which has been updated in response to the times.

How a dance performance is made.
Eri Karatsu, who has worked on more than 200 projects as Executive Producer of Aichi Arts Theatre and Artistic Director of DaBY, will explain the production process from planning to performance, which dancers should also know.
About DaBY Contextual Studies
DaBY Contextual Studies is a lecture program for learning about the performing arts from a cross-sectional perspective. The goal of the program is to provide students with a broad knowledge of various dance-related techniques and performing arts, and to think about these findings in a series of contexts so that they can apply them practically in their activities as professional dancers while maintaining a broad perspective.
In addition to DaBY’s professional staff with expertise in the performing arts, a variety of guest lecturers will be invited to participate in this special program.
