In February 2021, Japanese artists who have taken residencies and activities at DaBY this year will hold tryouts to show their creative process. This is a double bill by DaBY Collective Dance Project, which has held two tryouts at DaBY, and Mina Nishimura and Kota Yamazaki, who are currently based in the United States.

1) “never thought it would”

This is the third tryout of the project, in which creators of different genres, led by DaBY associate choreographer Ryu Suzuki, will create works. We will further explore how the casual choices we make in our daily lives, how our minor decisions can lead to unintended consequences.

(2) “Ghosts, Other, or You” (Work in Progress)

Music by Masahiro Sugaya

Kota Yamazaki and Mina Nishimura will perform a work-in-progress of their new work Ghosts, Other, or You, co-created at Florida State University and Maggie Alessi National Choreography Center (MANCC) in December 2020. This work investigates the fractal, weather-like body and aging time that can embrace two different histories, perceptions, and fragmented internal landscapes within the complex and static world of nature.

Awarded Bessie Prize in 2007, Guggenheim Fellow in 2006, and many others. Organizer of Body Arts Laboratory. Full-time lecturer at Bennington College.
