Kota Yamazaki Dance Class for those who are interested in creating stage productions
DaBY guest artist Kota Yamazaki, based in New York, will offer a two-day workshop.
Beginning with technique classes, students will learn improvisation and composition. Each class can be taken separately. Those who wish to explore their vision and motivation for creating art are welcome to join us.
◆Schedule
Saturday, January 13 & Sunday, January 14, 2024
(1) Technique Class 10:15 – 12:00
Target: Experienced dancers
The basics are release techniques entering from the floor floor and repertory phrases from phrases. The phrases are constantly shifted from side to side of the feet, and the body floats, and at the same time, the energy that overflows from within develops into movement, instantly diffusing and contracting, and we enjoy the sensation of slipping more and more into the space.
2) Improvisation Class 13:00 – 14:50
Target: People with dance experience
Improvisation is about how to relax and smoothly connect to the movement. Memories are brought back from each movement, and these memories are diffused into all dimensions by the action of gravity, and each particle is instantly edited and connected to the movement to move into the future. The premise of this class is that a new world will be constructed by going through the skills while taking into account Forsythe’s improvisation technology and other factors.
③ Composition Class 15:15 – 17:30
Target: No dance experience necessary
I see the world through my body. My space inevitably rises up, and a few words or images float in each space, and gradually you feel the time of me. And then, to create an honest time of your own body, whether it is a phrase, a gesture, or playing with an object. There is no judgment criteria of what is right or wrong, just do it. The goal of the Composition Class is to give feedback to the other participants, and gradually lead them to a solid work of art.
