OpenLab “Israel Galvan Special Workshop in Japan”

Dance Base Yokohama is pleased to announce a special workshop by Israel Galvan, who has made a miraculous visit to Japan. The three workshops will include a contemporary dance class for experienced flamenco dancers, an advanced flamenco class for experienced flamenco dancers, and a basic flamenco class for beginners and those with no previous dance experience.
This is a unique opportunity to learn not only flamenco technique directly from Israel Galvan, “the flamenco revolutionary,” but also his masterful way of expression. Please register for this workshop.
Due to the expected high volume of applications for the workshop, participants will be selected by lottery. Please note that only one application per person is allowed per workshop. Please understand this beforehand. You will receive an email from the DaBY office later to confirm whether or not you have been accepted.

*Workshops will be conducted in Spanish with Japanese interpretation.
Contemporary Dance Class” has been renamed from “Contemporary Dance Class for Experienced Flamenco Dancers”. This class is open to students with no flamenco dance experience. No genre of dance is required. All are welcome to join.[6/23更新]
◆Things to bring
Contemporary dance class: No shoes required, barefoot is also acceptable.
Advanced Flamenco Class for experienced flamenco dancers: Flamenco Shoes
Basic flamenco class for beginners: Please bring flamenco shoes or sneakers or other comfortable shoes.

◆Terms and Conditions of Participation
- Those who have seen Israel Galvin’s “The Rite of Spring” at the theater (either Kanagawa or Aichi performance)
- Those who can present a negative certificate of PCR test within 3 days before the visit or those who can cooperate with antigen test at the time of visit to DaBY.
*If you wish to have antigen testing done by DaBY, a separate fee of 2,000 yen will be charged for the test kit.
*We will ask you to present your ticket stub for the performance at the workshop reception, so please be sure to bring your ticket stub with you and do not throw it away.
*This program is not applicable to visitors through the free admission program for those 18 years old and under who live or attend school in Yokohama City.
◆Capacity & Fees
Contemporary dance class for experienced flamenco dancers (20 students): 7,000 yen (tax included)
Advanced flamenco class for experienced flamenco dancers (20 students): 10,000 yen (tax included)
Basic flamenco class for beginners and those with no dance experience (25 students): 5,000 yen (tax included)
* Antigen test at DaBY If you would like to have your body tested, there is a separate fee of 2,000 yen for the test kit in addition to the above amounts.

Born in Seville, Spain. Born in Seville, Spain, Luis Castilla is known for his intricate and speedy footwork, his masterful sense of rhythm, and his originality in opening up a new world of flamenco. In 1994, he joined Mario Maya’s Andaluza Dance Company, where he won accolades such as “genius,” “revolutionary,” and “avant-garde. In 1998, he founded his own company, which has presented a series of innovative works that defy conventional thinking. He has received numerous awards in Spain, including the 2012 Bessie Prize in New York and a Special Mention at the 16th National Dance Awards in the UK in 2004. He is an associate artist of Theatre de la Ville de Paris. In recent years, he performed “SOLO” and “FLA.CO.MEN” at the Aichi Triennale 2016, and in 2006, he visited Japan for “The Golden Age,” which attracted much attention.
