Dance Base Yokohama

Dance Base Yokohama

Kohei Fujimura / Tryout for new work “Noooclip

Date: 2025/2/15(Sat) 18:00~
Venue: Dance Base Yokohama

Kouhei Fujimura, a resident artist for the 2024 academic year, will hold creation and tryout at Dance Base Yokohama. The work to be created this time will explore the emergence of dance by reinterpreting the concept of choreography, using the culture of backrooms and liminal spaces as a clue. Asahi Ishikawa, Kohei Fujimura, Naoto Oka, and Masaya Fukunaga, each of whom has a cross-disciplinary background, will create a work that intersects contingent creativity.

◆ “Nooooclip”.

What I foresee now is a dance that is like jumping through the darkness.
For example, it starts with the unnatural and eerie sensation of a familiar cityscape or a well-worn walking path suddenly rising up as something distant, and slipping off into the frontier folded up inside it. To be pushed by something and to no-clip behind a wall.
For me, that is the moment when I catch the “Okay, let’s dance” without any guarantees or conditions, and the dance always comes from there. The disparate limbs intuit something and start jumping in all directions with no landing point in sight, like a child mouthing everything in the scenery that flows through the car window. A desire to start something a little different. I want to see what lies beyond where my personal fantasy pulls at my body and begins to draw a free line.
