-Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project “Wings” for Next Generation Creators to Spread Their Wings to the World-

Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) launched a new project in 2024 called “Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project ‘Wings’ for Next Generation Creators to Spread Their Wings to the World”. Together with six creators selected for the “Wings” project, they will create works with the aim of performing overseas.

From March 2025, Conan Amok will begin research and creation for a new work.
We will hold a showing of “Luminous ashes” by Conan Amok and Joanna Rosenfeld, which was presented at DaBY in September 2024, as well as a showing (work in progress) of “R/evolution(s)”, which also serves as an audition for performers in the new work.

We look forward to your attendance.

◆Conan Amok × Joanna Rosenfeld “Luminous ashes”

As one of the ongoing international collaborations that Conan Amok has been engaged in, he invited Joanna Rosenfeld, who is active in physical theater in the UK, to conduct a workshop, creation, and new work tryout at Dance Base Yokohama in September 2024. After that, they continued to create and perform energetically for six months, and will present “Luminous ashes” as the culmination of this project.

Direction, Choreography, Performance: Conan Amok, Joanna Rosenfeld
Music: Amida Haretsuon, Narukami Kousetsu

◆Conan Amok New Work “R/evolution(s)” (Work in Progress)

The new work we are tackling this time is a dance piece that uses orbital motion as a motif, themed on the reinterpretation of bodily sensations in the contemporary era. Inspired by “Revolution”, which means rotation/revolution, this work raises physicality as a phenomenon through Amok’s proposed Butoh method called “Multi Layered Body”, intersecting with transformation, multi-faceted composition, and the physicality of dancers. How will this work, which aims for materialization reaching the details of the body with intensity, pierce through the modern society overflowing with information and meaning?
This time, we recruited 15 dancers through an open call that also serves as an audition for performers. After a four-day workshop, we will hold a showing.

*Multi Layered Body
Multi Layered Body is Amok’s unique Butoh method that embodies techniques for changing ways of seeing and perceiving from phenomenology, and the temporality and spatiality of how works come into being from sculpture.

Direction, Choreography: Conan Amok
Performers: Yukino Abiko, Moeka Osada, Mizuki Kaneko, Emily Kawazoe, Yuhi Konno, Hanako Shimazu, Kaya Tsurumi, Ivan Timbrell, Mano Hatanaka, Martin Barcelo, Manaka Furukawa, Yumeka Maekawa, Yuki Matsukura, Joanna Rosenfeld
