SR/Yuria Onishi double bill performance “LIVE
SR/Yuria Onishi (lead by Yuria Onishi) will be in residence at Dance Base Yokohama from April to June 2026, working on the creation of her new project “LIVE”. As a work-in-progress in anticipation of a performance at Akebonoza in Mie Prefecture, a showing will be held to announce its current location.
◆Outline
LIVE” is a double bill performance featuring two works that formalize the two artists’ previous experiences.
The first work is an attempt to visualize the complex rhythms of jazz music based on Yuria Onishi’s experience in theater jazz dance as an artist. By interpreting rhythms from sound sources rather than sheet music, she discovers subtle nuances and rhythms unique to live performance that cannot be transcribed in sheet music, and incorporates them into dance.
The second work is a solo piece by artist Jun Aoyagi, who focuses on the fictional nature of animation and creates a “two-dimensional experience” in a three-dimensional space. By exploring the possibilities of visual flat expressions using various tools and fictions that could occur in reality, the artist provides an illusory time for live expression.

◆Profile
This project was launched in 2024 by Yuria Onishi, a widely active choreographer and dancer. Her work is based on a fusion of her roots in “the entertainment value of theater jazz dance and the artistry of contemporary dance,” with an emphasis on the audience’s point of view.
His activities are based on the two main logics of “room side,” which deepens the relationship between the audience and performers and unifies the space, and “sea side,” which explores the physical sensations and ways of being of the performers through their thoughts.
Aiming to create an intimate space that even those unfamiliar with dance can immerse themselves in, the company is developing its activities from various angles, including organized performances and workshop projects.
She began theater jazz dance and modern dance at an early age. While a student at Nihon University College of Art, she encountered contemporary dance and began her creative activities, and was a finalist in the Yokohama Dance Collection Competition II in 2023. In 2024, she established the project “SR/Yuria Onishi” and continues to present works that aim to fuse art and entertainment.
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Nihon University College of Art. She has participated in works by Kazuyuki Futami, Kenta Komatsuki, Yasutake Shimaji, Shintaro Hirahara, and others, and performed in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the J-League 30th Anniversary Special Match Ceremony. She is currently a dancer in residence at DaBY and a member of the SR/Yuria Onishi project. As the leader of “Garandoh,” she has organized three performances so far.
She studied classical ballet from an early age. While in high school, she switched to jazz dance, and in 2022, she went to Los Angeles by herself, winning first place at the ShowStopper Northern Final 2023. After returning to Japan in 2024, she began to focus on contemporary dance. In 2026, she will present a new work, “Waiting for Spring” at Oishida Air.
She first encountered contemporary dance at J. F. Oberlin University, where she studied under Kuniko Kisanuki. So far, she has performed in the 2023 Nihon University College of Art Master’s Program and in the PARCO-produced performance “Tokyo Ranbu” (as a stage performer). She is also strongly interested in creative activities, including exhibiting her solo at the Kagurazaka Session House “Dance Theater 21 Fest”. Creating and being involved in creative activities is the meaning of my continued existence here, and is one circuit that connects me with others and society.
Born in Shimane Prefecture. Upon entering J. F. Oberlin University, he moved to Tokyo and studied under Tatsuo Kanegashita while in school. After graduation, she starred in the film “Honamatomorrow” (24/Sakiki Michimoto), which was a finalist for the Kaneto Shindo Award, an official selection at the Udine Far East Film Festival, and a JAPANCUTS2025 selection, and has been well received both in Japan and abroad. Her next film, “Kokorodama” (25/Rikako Watanabe), in which she plays the lead role, was sequentially released at Polepole Higashi-Nakano and other theaters nationwide. In recent years, he has been expanding his activities to include planning and facilitating high school theater workshops and performing in dance productions.
