Updated Monday, June 29, 2026: We have published information on the related project, “What Happened After the Feedback.”Click here for information on related events
Yurika Toyota will be in residence at Dance Base Yokohama from Thursday, July 2, 2026, through Sunday, July 26, 2026, to continue creating *Organized Play*: Table Tennis Edition. In this showing, she will present the results of approximately one month of creation and experimentation in the form of a “match” as a work-in-progress.
◆Outline
“Organized Play: Table Tennis Edition” is a spectator-style dance performance in which Dance Base Yokohama is transformed into a table tennis court, and dancers stage matches that mimic table tennis.Audience members use the “Spacha” (instruction button) to intervene in the match, becoming “managers” who influence its outcome. Your choices will alter the relationships and structure, driving the performance itself. This production is a presentation of the results from a residency research project based on the 2025 soccer edition. After a month of creation and testing in July, we will reveal what kind of match ultimately emerges. How will the dancers/players respond to the impossible challenge of “playing table tennis while dancing”?! Witness the birth of this unknown sport.

Kouhei FujimuraI work as a dancer. What exactly is dance? It’s not simply about moving. Just because you jump or spin doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dance. Yet sometimes, even standing still and doing nothing can be dance. By discovering dance in the smallest of things and incorporating non-dance elements into dance, I explore the relationship between the body and society. |
