Yurika Toyota will be in residence at Dance Base Yokohama from Thursday, July 2, 2026, through Sunday, July 26, 2026, to continue creating *Organized Play*: Table Tennis Edition. In this showing, she will present the results of approximately one month of creation and experimentation in the form of a “match” as a work-in-progress.

◆Outline

“Organized Play: Table Tennis Edition” is a spectator-style dance performance in which Dance Base Yokohama is transformed into a table tennis court, and dancers stage matches that mimic table tennis.Audience members use the “Spacha” (instruction button) to intervene in the match, becoming “managers” who influence its outcome. Your choices will alter the relationships and structure, driving the performance itself. This production is a presentation of the results from a residency research project based on the 2025 soccer edition. After a month of creation and testing in July, we will reveal what kind of match ultimately emerges. How will the dancers/players respond to the impossible challenge of “playing table tennis while dancing”?! Witness the birth of this unknown sport.

A Talk Event with Artists:
“What Happens After Feedback”

— After presenting our work, what do we keep and what do we discard? —

As part of the “Organized Play” table tennis series, we will be hosting a talk event titled “What Happened After the Feedback.”

When you share your work, you receive a variety of reactions and critiques. Sometimes it’s encouraging, but other times you might feel hurt or confused, wondering, “Why did they say that?” Feedback brings creators many insights, but it also stirs up a range of emotions.

At this event, artists will share their perspectives on the feedback they’ve received over the years and how they’ve dealt with it. “What was the point of that criticism back then?” “I’m still haunted by that comment.” If you’ve had experiences like these, please feel free to bring them up here.

No specific genre or experience is required. Whether you’ve had the opportunity to receive feedback on your work or creative activities, have struggled with how to handle criticism or advice, are in a position where you teach or evaluate others, or simply want to understand how artists perceive feedback and criticism—I hope this will be a time for us to reflect together on how to approach feedback, drawing on our real-life experiences.

Kouhei Fujimura
Kouhei Fujimura

I work as a dancer. What exactly is dance? It’s not simply about moving. Just because you jump or spin doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dance. Yet sometimes, even standing still and doing nothing can be dance. By discovering dance in the smallest of things and incorporating non-dance elements into dance, I explore the relationship between the body and society.
