Dance Base Yokohama is pleased to announce a special workshop by Israel Galvan, who will make a miraculous visit to Japan on June 26 (Sat.) and June 27 (Sun.), There will be a contemporary dance class, an advanced flamenco class for experienced flamenco dancers, and a basic flamenco class for beginners and those with no dance experience.
This is a unique opportunity to learn flamenco technique and expression directly from the “flamenco revolutionary,” Israel Galvan. Please register for this workshop.
Due to the expected high volume of applications for the workshop, participants will be selected by lottery. Please note that only one application per person is allowed per workshop. Please understand this beforehand. You will receive an email from the DaBY office later to confirm whether or not you have been accepted.
◆Workshop Details
Saturday, June 26
13:30-15:00 Contemporary Dance Class
16:30-18:00 Advanced Flamenco Class for experienced Flamenco dancers
Sunday, June 27
13:30-15:00 Basic Flamenco Class for beginners and those with no dance experience
*Workshops will be conducted in Spanish, Japanese interpretation will be provided.
The “Contemporary Dance Class” is open to those who have no experience in flamenco dance. No genre of dance is required. All are welcome to participate.
◆Things to bring
Contemporary dance class: No shoes required, barefoot is welcome.
Advanced flamenco class for experienced dancers: flamenco shoes
Basic flamenco class for beginners: flamenco shoes or sneakers, or shoes that are comfortable to move in.

◆Terms and Conditions of Participation
-People who have seen Israel Galvin’s “The Rite of Spring” at the theater (either Kanagawa or Aichi performance)
-People who can present a negative certificate of PCR test within 3 days before the visit or who can cooperate with antigen test at the DaBY visit
*If you wish to have antigen test at DaBY If you wish to have an antigen test at DaBY, 2,000 yen (including tax) for the test kit will be charged separately.
Please be sure to bring your ticket stub with you at the time of registration.
*This event is not applicable to those who have attended through the free invitation program for those under 18 years old who reside or attend school in Yokohama City.
◆Capacity & Fees
Contemporary dance class (20 students): 7,000 yen (tax included)
Advanced flamenco class for experienced dancers (20 students): 10,000 yen (tax included)
Basic flamenco class for beginners (25 students): 5,000 yen (tax included)
*If you wish to have antigen testing done at DaBY, If you wish to have your antigen tested by DaBY, there is a separate fee of 2,000 yen (tax included) for the test kit in addition to the above amounts.

◆Instructor Profile
Israel Galvan
Dancer and choreographer

Born in Seville, Spain. Known for her intricate and speedy footwork, her superb sense of rhythm, and her originality in opening up new worlds of flamenco, she studied flamenco with her parents, who were both famous dancers, and began performing at an early age. In 1994, he joined Mario Maya’s Andaluza Dance Company, where he won accolades such as “genius,” “revolutionary,” and “avant-garde. In 1998, he founded his own company, which has presented a series of innovative works that defy conventional thinking. He has received numerous awards in Spain, including the 2012 Bessie Prize in New York and a Special Mention at the 16th National Dance Awards in the UK in 2004. He is an associate artist of Theatre de la Ville de Paris. In recent years, he performed “SOLO” and “FLA.CO.MEN” at the Aichi Triennale 2016, and in 2006, he visited Japan for “The Golden Age,” which attracted much attention.
