【Application Open】2025/2026 Residency Programme Application Guideline
Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is seeking new residency projects (both individual and group) that will use the facility for creation in 2025.
DaBY emphasizes the importance of creative process and its potential in line with our mission, “open dance to society.”
This year marks the third year of the “Open Call for Residence Artists,” which began in FY2023, and the name of the program has been changed from “Open Call for Residence Artists” to “Residency Program.
We feel the necessity to introduce the overall activities of those involved in creation to the public, and we are also exploring ways to support not only the artists but the entire team involved in the planning process more effectively than before.
We are looking for a wide range of artists from diverse fields interested in physical expression, not limited to dance, and we are actively seeking applicants who are willing to work with the artists, dancers, community, and staff involved in DaBY. We encourage you to apply.
◆Requirements
1.The project must be an original work in a creation phase.
2.Individuals or groups ages 18 – 39.
3.The project/activity must be related to body expression, regardless of genre.
4.The project and/or work is highly feasible in terms of your project proposal, budget
and past experiences.
◆Conditions
1.Activities should possess a social perspective.

2.Transparency of your activities during the residency.
At DaBY, we uphold the principle of not generating closed spaces to ensure a healthy creation
environment. We aim to practice “fair creation” by fostering a space where participating creators
and staff can communicate equally. Our archive area and the acting area are open to the public,
making the creative process transparent and connecting the theater with everyday life.
*It is also possible to temporarily close doors and windows and use the space in a closed
state during tryouts or when focused work is needed.
*If you wish to use the space in a closed manner based on the nature of your work,
indicate this in your application or consult with us each time.
3.Event collaboration at DaBY
We ask you to share your experiences at DaBY to whatever extent possible. This includes a
workshop or a seminar in collaboration with DaBY, or casting DaBY resident dancers for your
project. Please be ready to assist if we approach you about hosting an event.
You must hold a performance (a work-in-progress or a tryout) at DaBY on the last day(s) of your residency.
We are able to arrange auditions for recruiting participants as per your request.
4.Participation in programs held at DaBY
You are required to attend designated seminars such as anti-harassment courses, legal
seminars, etc.
5.Distribution of relevant information.

media and on other platforms.
