Born in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture. Studied flute under Yoshio Nakagawa, a flautist of the Tosha school, and nagauta shamisen under Goshiro Kineya. He is currently enrolled in the Department of Traditional Japanese Music at Tokyo University of the Arts.
