This is a showcase of seven performances by Japanese dance artists who have been creating at Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) over the past two years of the Corona Disaster.
DaBY is committed to providing an environment where creation can be concentrated, and furthermore, aims to re-stage the created works in various theaters in Japan and abroad. Six of the works presented at this year’s festival were premiered at the Aichi Arts Center, which is a public-private partnership with DaBY, as two projects, “Genealogy of Dance” and “Suzuki Ryu Triple Bill”.
YPAM will present six works created through these projects, plus a new work by DaBY resident artist Romance Hashimoto, in a triple bill of five showcase-style performances. The unique Japanese dance artists, from veterans who have worked abroad to up-and-coming artists, will be presenting their responses to society through their bodies at the Corona Disaster.

MOVING SHADOW” by Yoko Ando, created with Kenji Miyazawa’s “Spring and Shura” as a motif, is a new work that was born after about a year and a half of creation with two young dancers who were discovered through audition. Along with this work, Ando’s solo, which reconstructs part of Forsythe’s masterpiece “The Lost Commission,” will be performed in succession.

The Dying Swan” based on Fokin’s original story has been danced by ballet dancers all over the world. In this performance, Hana Sakai, one of Japan’s leading dancers, will perform a newly interpreted version of the play, which she worked on with playwright Toshiki Okada. By approaching the cause of the swan’s death, the ballet style is deconstructed, opening up a new dimension in contemporary performing arts.

They and I. How does dance appear as a cry of denunciation in this asymmetrical relationship? In this asymmetrical relationship, how does dance appear as a cry of denunciation?
The challenge of creation is to explore expressions that do not presuppose the interactive expression demanded by reason.

We can finally say what we want to say after losing our bodies.
Perhaps the existence of ghosts is like the irresponsible avatars of modern social networking sites,
Wasn’t he there to hide his existence behind it and vent his envy?
