Since its opening, DaBY has continuously held the OpenLab “Dancers, Dance with Words” series, in which artists introduce their own experiences and creative activities through talks and demonstrations.

The guest for this 9th edition is Shoko Nakamura, a longtime principal of the Berlin State Ballet and other companies, who is now further expanding her activities as an honorary principal of the K Ballet Company.

In the talk, Ms. Nakamura and Komatsu, who had an exchange with the same choreographer at the Prix de Lausanne and have performed together in gala performances, will talk about episodes from those days and behind the scenes of their performances, and explore the origins of Ms. Nakamura’s continued success at the forefront of the ballet.

Also, on this year’s theme, “The Potential of Ballet Dancers and the State of Retirement,” two members of the same generation, now in their 40s and approaching retirement age in European dance companies, will talk briefly about their future activities and what they would like to challenge themselves with.
