A new creation workshop will be held by Yasutake Shimaji, a choreographer and dancer who has presented works in Japan and abroad after working with world-renowned choreographer William Forsythe.
Shimaji is working with 12 dancers to create a new work to be presented at the Aichika Art Theater x Dance Base Yokohama “Performing Arts Selection” in 2024.
This workshop is open to participants, not only dancers involved in new creations.

We believe that dance is unique in its ability to listen and speak at the same time.
It communicates its intentions clearly while capturing changes with a clear sensation.
In the workshop, we will
・Push and pull the other person with simple movements to be aware of the body that acts and is acted upon.
Using the Rudolf Laban scale (cube), we will move from the smallest parts of the body with an understanding of space to cultivate a sense of approaching the outside while looking inside the body.
Next, words are assigned to the eight points of the cube. For example, the upper right is a cherry blossom, and the lower left back is a black hole. Then, we approach the points by reacting to them. Imagine a situation in which you can see how it moves, or more importantly, how it is moved.
Next, we do it with two people. How will we transform each other by reacting to the other while holding our own space, direction, and imagination?
I would like to share a time and place of unceasing curiosity with everyone who participates.

From 2006 to 2003, he was a member of the Forsythe Company. Formed the unit “Altnue” with Hana Sakai. Member of Shiseido’s 7th Tsubaki-kai. Performed with ROY TAN in the Aichi Arts Theatre production of “ARIKA” and has toured extensively. She performed in “Study # 3” choreographed by William Forsythe in the “Genealogy of Dance” project by Aichi Arts Theatre x DaBY, and directed and performed in “Ainote”, her second work with ROY Tamaki.
