【For the general public】 YPAM Fringe 2023|Dance Base Yokohama Showcase + Open Studio
Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is a private dance house established in 2020 and operated by the Sega Sammy Foundation for Arts and Culture.
Eri Karatsu, executive producer of Aichi Arts Theatre, participated as artistic director from the concept stage of the space design for this space for creation and research.
During this year’s YPAM [Yokohama Performing Arts Meeting], from December 1 to 17, 2023, DaBY will host a showcase and open studios, as it did last year, where you can observe the creative work of the resident artists at all times and browse materials in the archive The archive area will be open to the public free of charge. A talk on DaBY’s concept of “fair creation” is also being planned.

Speakers: Saori Hara, Yohei Hamada, Takuya Fujisawa, Eri Karatsu (facilitator)
DaBY has been making efforts to improve the dance environment, such as through its “Fair Creation Declaration. We will invite three dance artists with experience working overseas, Saori Hara, Yohei Hamada, and Takuya Fujisawa, to hear about examples of overseas dance houses and flat collaboration methods, and to think together about initiatives that can be applied in Japan in the future.

Speakers: Mariko Kakizaki, Mami Shimazaki, Eri Karatsu
The talk will consider the creative environment from the perspective of childcare and how an environment that facilitates activities while raising children can be created.
Mariko Kakizaki, who has a child at DaBY and continues to create while raising her child, Mami Shimazaki, who raised her child overseas and continues to work as an artist, and Eri Karatsu, who has both raised her child and produced art, will discuss the changes and experiences that came about during their child-rearing years and consider how to create an environment necessary for sustainable activities.
