What is “The Rite of Spring”? Igor Stravinsky’s masterpiece for dance
Choreographed by Václav Nijinsky of the Ballets Russes and composed by Igor Stravinsky, “The Rite of Spring,” which had its world premiere in 1913, is legendary for its sheer originality, which is said to have provoked angry shouts from some audiences at the time. However, it has since been loved by many choreographers and has become one of the most celebrated works, with master choreographers such as Maurice Béjart and Pina Bausch creating masterpieces. This time, it will be performed with Israeli dance and two pianos, which will be part of the rhythm and characteristic of flamenco. The Rite of Spring by Israel is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, different from any previous work by any choreographer, and a masterpiece that goes to the root of Stravinsky’s compositions!
