Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) will launch a new project “Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project “Wings” for the next generation of creators who want to spread their wings to the world” in 2024. The 12 creators selected for the “Wings” project will work together to create works with a view to performing them overseas.
One of the creators, choreographer/dancer Mariko Kakizaki, is looking for dancers to participate in the creation of her new work as follows.
We are looking for dancers who are willing to be involved in the creation of the piece on a long-term basis.

◆Targets and Conditions of Participation
Professional dancers with at least 5 years of experience and those who are willing to be actively involved in the creative process of this production.
◯Creation rehearsals
scheduled for late May and late August to mid-September 2025
◯Pre-performance rehearsal & performance➀ @Aichi Arts Theatre (rehearsals will be adjusted from the following schedule)
around October/ late October to early November

*In principle, rehearsals will be held during the daytime on weekdays, with the possibility of intensive rehearsals in Aichi Prefecture in late October.
*There will be several outreach sessions before the performance of the show. Please participate as much as possible if you are selected to perform.
*There is a possibility of another performance tour (including overseas) after February 2026.
*Please consult with us if you are in the process of adjusting dates or have already made plans.

Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is launching a new project, “Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project “Wings” for the next generation of creators who want to spread their wings to the world. This project aims to increase the international presence of Japanese creators, nurture leading Japanese artists, producers, dramaturges and critics, and create opportunities for overseas performances and further revivals of their works.

◆Creator Profile
Mariko Kakizaki

Dancer, choreographer, and DaBY resident artist. Choreographer and DaBY artist in residence.
Born in Kagawa, Japan, former rhythmic gymnast.
She is a member of Batsheva ensemble Dance Company (2012-2014) and L-E-V Sharon Eyal|Gai Behar (2015-2021), and has performed and taught workshops around the world. She won the Gold Prize at the 2011 Korea International Dance Festival, the 2013 Kagawa Prefecture Culture and Arts Newcomer Award, the 2014 Israel Jerusalem Dance Week Competition, the 2020 Japan Dance Forum Award, the 2021 Japan Dance Forum Award, etc. In 2021, she opened the culture center “beq” in Kumamoto, aiming to become a place where culture and art can be enjoyed casually. He is currently working to create a place where people can enjoy culture and art in a casual manner. He established “GAMAMA ” and in 2022 opened the art and culture center “beq” in Kumamoto, and is currently working to create a place where culture can be enjoyed casually through gallery management and AIR projects, etc. He is a Gaga instructor.
In the Dance Base Yokohama x Aichi Arts Theatre project, he participated in Mariko Kakizaki’s “Can’t-Sleeper” (2023), Ryu Suzuki’s “When will we ever learn? would” (premiered in 2021, performed again in 2022).
