Mami Shimazaki has been active as a soloist with the Bat Sheva Dance Company in Israel for many years, and is currently active in a wide range of activities in Israel, not only in dance and choreography, but also in theater/acting. During the short stay in Japan, the dancers will hold an intensive workshop at DaBY, and on March 19 (Sun.), the final day of the workshop, they will present their work with the dancers who will participate in the workshop. In addition to the workshop participants’ works, Mami Shimazaki and Mariko Kakizaki will demonstrate their creative works.

◆Lecturer Profile

Asami Shimazaki
Mami Shimazaki

Born in Tokyo, Japan. At the age of 16, she moved to Europe to study dance, theater, voice, and kendo at the first class of “Rudra” led by Maurice Béjart. After working with companies in Italy and Germany, she spent 12 years as a soloist with the Bat Sheva Dance Company in Israel, where she performed in many works by Ohad Naharin, as well as works by William Forsythe, Sharon Eyal, Kota Yamazaki, and other choreographers from around the world. Currently, she also choreographs her own works.

Mariko Kakizaki

Born in Kagawa Prefecture, former rhythmic gymnast.
After belonging to Batsheva ensemble Dance Company (2012-2014), she joined L-E-V Sharon
Eyal|Gai Behar (2015-2021) and has performed and taught WS around the world.
Awards received include the Gold Prize at the 2011 Korea International Dance Festival, the 2013 Kagawa Prefecture Newcomer Award for Culture and Arts, the 2014 Israel Jerusalem
Dance Week
Competition, the 2020 Japan Dance Forum Award, the 2021 Japan Dance Forum Award, and others.
In 2021, she opened a culture center “beq” in Kumamoto, aiming to provide a place where people can enjoy culture and art in a casual way.
She is the organizer of “GAMAMA” and conducts online workshops, etc. She is a Gaga instructor.
