-Dance Base Yokohama for the next generation of world-bound creators International Dance Project “Wings”-
Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) will launch a new project “Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project “Wings ” for the next generation of creators who want to spread their wings to the world” in 2024. Wings” for the next generation of world-class creators. The six creators selected for the “Wings” project will work together to create works with a view to performing them internationally.
Creations by Ayaka Ono Akira Nakazawa Spacenotblank will begin in January 2025.
As a first step, open rehearsals and showings (work-in-progress) of “Dance Piece No. 1: Claude Debussy’s ‘Études’ will be held.

◆Dance Piece No. 1: Claude Debussy’s ‘Études’
Ayaka Ono Akira Nakazawa The 1st “Dance Work” by Spacenotblank. It consists of 12 pieces: “for five fingers,” “for three degrees,” “for four degrees,” “for six degrees,” “for octaves,” “for eight fingers,” “for chromatic scale,” “for ornaments,” “for repeated notes,” “for contrasting sounds,” “for combined arpeggios” and “for chords. A dance piece based on Claude Debussy’s ‘Études’”.

Ayaka Ono Akira Nakazawa Spacenotblank
2024 DaBY Resident Artist
Founded in 2012 as a collective of performing artists, Ayaka Ono and Akira Nakazawa, who create performing arts works. By integrating the established concepts of the performing arts with new mechanisms that they have researched and developed on their own, they continue to explore the state of the performing arts in the modern age and attempt to create diverse values. With communication arising from the unique environment and relationships at the root of their creation, they are actively engaged in both ongoing collaboration with creation members and collaborations with different artists.

Performance|Gautier Asensi
dancer. Since his childhood, he has been exploring various styles of dance: classical, contemporary, hip-hop, commercial, and house. After training at prestigious classical and contemporary dance schools (Paris Opera, Rosella Hightower), he joined Godarts in the Netherlands. She then moved to Paris to train in hip-hop/commercial dance and joined the Flow Dance Academy (hip-hop, house, etc.). She then worked in the dance world, using her academic and urbane foundation. Since a few years ago, she has been exploring the Parisian scene as a freelance dancer. He has worked with Damien Jalet, JR, Sadek Belaba, Fabrizi, and most recently with Maude Le Pladec for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. He has cultivated his artistry through a wide range of dance activities, from live performances in Paris to filming music videos. He is currently in Tokyo to explore the Japanese scene, which is quite different from that of France, and to discover a new artistry.
Performance|Yusuke Miya
Born in 1998. Born in Niigata Prefecture. Physical expressionist. Stage writer. Graduated from University of Tsukuba and graduate school. He creates his own dance works based on his own experiences. In addition to creating works, he is running AIR with his younger brother who is involved in town revitalization in his hometown of Niigata. His collaborative works have won the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award five times at the All Japan Dance Festival-KOBE. She has won the Yokohama Dance Collection 2022 Competition II Best New Artist Award, SAI DANCE FESTIVAL 2023 First Prize in Solo Division, and the 13th El Sur Foundation New Artist Award. Residence artist at PLAT Dance Residence 2023, HONOKUNI Yohashi Arts Theatre.

Performance|Shizuka Yamaguchi
Shizuka Yamaguchi is a dancer and choreographer born on April 12, 1990. As a dancer, she has performed “-(dash)” by Takumi-chan, “Natori River” by Kageyama Weather Station x Hiyori Geta x Shizuka Yamaguchi, “Becoming an Invisible City Performance Project (Aoyama version)” by Kota Yamazaki, “Laughing Picture Frame” by Baobab, “Ayaka Ono Nakazawa Yo Space Knot Blank “Physical Catharsis”, “Cycle (Work in Progress)”, “Street Replay Music Balance”, “Street”, “Balance”, “Rebirth (original idea: Junnosuke Tada)”, etc., and Ayaka Ono, Yo Nakazawa, Space Knot Blank “The Inherited Body”. In addition to participating as a rehearsal director, he has participated in Ayaka Ono Nakazawa Yo Space Knot Blank “Regeneration (by Shuntaro Matsubara)”, “Words and Shakespeare’s Bird”, and “Alice in the Light (by Shuntaro Matsubara)”.
Sound and Lighting| Shomi Sakurauchi
Born in 1992. Belongs to Obuton. Since her student days, she has been active as a stage sound artist mainly in small theaters in Tokyo, and since 2016, she has been working as a lighting artist and other sections of the theater company “Obuton”. In recent years, he has been involved in independent projects and creative activities while thinking about the fiction/non-fiction nature of theater.

Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is launching a new project, “Dance Base Yokohama International Dance Project “Wings” for the next generation of creators who want to spread their wings to the world. This project aims to increase the international presence of Japanese creators, nurture leading Japanese artists, producers, dramaturges and critics, and create opportunities for overseas performances and further revivals of their works.
