Japanese Artists Expanding Physical Expression
Four new works by four groups will be presented in two programs, A and B.
Performing Arts Selection, a program created in collaboration between Aichi Arts Theatre and Dance Base Yokohama, presents a selection of performances, and since 2021 has presented 10 works and toured 20 The Selection has toured to 20 venues in Japan and abroad.
In this performance, four new works by internationally acclaimed artists will be presented in two double bills, Program A and Program B.
Please pay attention to the latest works, which trace the lineage of dance and present new possibilities of physical expression.

Following the premiere of “The Dying Swan: The Truth of Its Death,” which premiered at “Dance Genealogy” in 2021 and has since been performed at 13 venues in Japan and abroad to great success in various locations, this is the second new work by Toshiki Okada and Hana Sakai, dealing with environmental issues. In this work, ballet YouTuber Hana introduces the synopsis of “Giselle,” a masterpiece of romantic ballet.
◆Performance piece 2: "Dance for Pleasure" by Yasutake Shimaji

Yasutake Shimaji, who has worked with world-renowned choreographer William Forsythe and collaborated with a variety of artists across disciplines, will create an ensemble piece with 11 dancers. What will we see in the scenery created by the interconnection between Shimaji and the dancers, whom he describes as “in pursuit of dance itself”?
◆Performance piece 3: "Post Ghost" by Saori Harasaori and Kaho Kogure
B Program
This new duo is composed of Saori Harasaori, who has garnered attention for her creative method that references design theory and ecopsychology, and Kaho Kogure, who combines a strong physicality and delicate expressiveness to create a unique presence. Together, they work on reinterpretation of sexual expressions such as cross-dressing and ghosts in Kabuki.
◆Performance work 4: "TAMA" by Ryu Suzuki and Masaru Okamoto
B Program

Ryu Suzuki, who has staged several premieres at Aichi Arts Theatre, including the “Ryu Suzuki Triple Bill” and the full evening work “Rain” in collaboration with artist Shinji Ohmaki and sound artist evala, and Masaru Okamoto, who is very active in his own company and guest performers in other performances. These two artists of the same generation have teamed up for the first time to create a unique work that deconstructs the physicality of “kendama” (a kind of Japanese billet ball), which Suzuki has been familiar with since childhood, and reconstructs it anew as a dance form.
