Toranan Ame / Creation workshop/audition for new work “R/evolution(s)
<Call for Participating Dancers
Dance Base Yokohama will start creation of a new piece “R/evolution(s)” choreographed by Toranan Ame, a Butoh-based dancer.
As the first step, a creation workshop will be held.
This workshop will also serve as an audition for the performers of the new work “R/evolution(s)” for the next year.
Intensive workshops using butoh techniques performed with dancers from different backgrounds.
The main focus will be on physical choreography, with creations developed through research that sometimes includes dialogue with participants, and a showing on the final day.
We look forward to your participation.
◆ Contents
Toranan Ame has been studying Butoh under Akane Maro since 2008 when he was a student of sculpture at Musashino Art University, and since becoming independent from Dairakudakan in 2019, he has been pursuing a dense solidity with an emphasis on flow and texture based on Butoh but without relying on spirituality, Orientalism, or narrative. The company’s philosophy is based on butoh, but never on spirituality, Orientalism, or narrative.
The new work they are working on this time is a dance piece based on the motif of orbital motion, with the theme of reinterpreting the sense of the body in the modern age.
Inspired by the word “revolution,” which means revolution or revolution, this work, through the “Multi Layered Body” butoh method advocated by Ame, launches physicality as a phenomenon, intersecting with metamorphosis, multifaceted composition, and the physicality of the dancers. How will this work, which aims to materialize the details of the body with intensity, pierce the modern society overflowing with information and meanings?
